I have been to the V Club on several
occasions (once to see Every Time
I Die almost two years ago) and I was excited to see a Hardcore show returning. The V Club offers a great atmosphere for an intimate look at some
kickass shows. Its stage is located to one side of the bar with the bar
placed in the center. Another
great aspect is the second bar location which is
outside, off the dance floor that offers an escape for a quick smoke
between sets or when the urge strikes. The staff is organized and
professional. They keep a good eye on safety and let the groups
have fun but are quick to act if needed. All of these are fine qualities
in a good venue, but what makes this place a Great Venue is the laid
back atmosphere. Time and time again I have seen supporting acts mixing
it up with the crowd during and after shows. It is amazing to see a
member of a band that you are really into vibing and getting into
the "pit" with you to support a band that they are into as
well!

This Baltimore punk band has a good throw back
sound to them. They are not reinventing the genre but the sound that they bring to the table is both passionate
and inspired. Calling upon the sounds of Black Flag, The Ramones, Dead Kennedy's
etc... They carved out a quick set that featured a cover of The Ramones
song "The KKK Took My Baby Away".

Don't Judge a Book By Its Cover... Let me just say that when this band
walked on stage and started sound checking I was a little taken back.
They had a quite reserve to them and got their gear checked quickly and
methodically. Then they kicked off the show. The sound that was
unleashed was refreshingly unexpected, a sound that reminded me of early
Unearth live. The pit was alive during every song with a specific
groove to it. We at SBE named the movement of part moshing part karate
exhibit "The Code Orange Karate Kids". The combined vocal
effort of Reba, Jami and Eric is unique in the way they complement each
other. A highlight of the set was when Andy Williams from Every
Time I Die came out to perform guest vocals. He quickly called out the
pit saying "Beat Up Your Best Friend!!!". He punished
the vocals and then left the stage letting the havoc ensue and be
carried on by Reba and the group.

Energy, that's what this band's show is about.
Jason flies over the stage in a flurry that mirrors the possessed, all while
staying true to the vocal timing and rhythm. The sound from the
drums and guitars were very complimentary to the accurate yet intricately
delicate screams. Jason (who was wearing a cast on his right arm) slung
himself into the crowd carelessly and made his way to the bar where
he immediately climbed up and let loose a calculated verbal assault on
the crowd. As if the crowd wasn't already in a tizzy, LetLive (which is
one word) covered Black Flag which sent the place soaring. My
favorite aspect of the show is one in the same as the with the venue.
Seeing Jason hang out after his set and talking with the
crowd and experiencing the show was trulyawesome. The time he spent
talking with and taking photos will surely be remembered by the fans.

Not gonna lie to you, anyone that knows me knows that I am huge Every
Time I Die fan! If you think this review will be biased though, you're
right, read it anyway, they are that good. So now that the rant is done.
This show was a clear showcase of what the band has done in
the past, their current status and a small look into where the band will
be headed. They did a plethora of songs from five of their albums and
also showcased a Brand New Song called Thirst (which was an angrily heavy, yet fun
song that rocked the pit).The energy that started with "After One
Quarter of a Revolution" went through the middle of the set which
had Jason from Letlive join them on stage for some guest vocals and more
verbal inspiration to the Pit. The set concluded with crowd
favorite "We'rewolf". This band is honestly one that must be
seen live to appreciate. They continue to expand their sound not
letting down true fans (the heavy) and being able to invite new ones
along for the ride(the catchy). Out of the eight of us that went
to the show six had not seen them and the atmosphere and experience
didn't disappoint. As with LetLive my favorite part of the show
was after when Andy and Stephen hung out in front of the stage talking
with fans, taking photos and enjoying the atmosphere.
Final
Thoughts
I have been to quite a few shows this year,
even some at the V Club with its intimate setting and others that were
EPIC in size. This was the show that will stick out in my mind when I
recap my year. So if you have a chance to catch any of these shows that are left please
do so. The bands are amazing and if the locations they are playing allow you as intimate a look at the show that the
V Club did you will not be disappointed, and if you are then you are probably dead from the waist down.
